Nashville, Tennessee (Aug 1, 2006) - MacMod.com, a premier internet source for technical news and advice on the latest techniques and products for upgrading and modifying Apple Macintosh computers, today announced the rules and entry requirements for "The Great Mac Mod Challenge 2006 Sponsored by Other World Computing and
macsales.com" an annual competition in which Apple Computer and iPod owners are recognized in various categories for their creativity and ingenuity in the upgrades and modifications made to their systems to improve performance, appearance, and functionality. Coinciding with the contest, which begins taking entries August 1st, the month of August has been designated "Modify Your Mac Month."
Macintosh modification is more popular than ever, and the challenge has become an intensely competitive event. This year, entrants are looking to trump previous champions such as the Necronomicon G4, Wallstreet RoadWarrior and the Millenium Falcon Mac mini.
"Modding is among the hottest new hobbies for Mac enthusiasts," says Anthony King, Director of Marketing and co-founder of MacMod.com.
"Modders" can submit up to three entries. Modification categories include Internal Changes, External Changes, iPod Modifications, Peripheral Modifications (mice, Airport, etc.), and Miscellaneous Modifications. Entries are judged on level of difficulty, creativity, integration, and functionality.
In the spirit of fun, the panel of judges will also name "Wackiest Mod," "Most Creative Mod" and "Most Useless Mod."
This year's competition is under the sponsorship of Other World Computing (OWC), the industry's leading technology solutions provider, and macsales.com, OWC's Internet sales portal that specializes in upgrades and peripherals for Macs and iPods.
"Other World Computing and macsales.com are recognized for our dedication to providing the best products to the Mac Community since 1988 and we are extremely proud to partner with MacMod.com to celebrate the ingenuity of Mac users," said Other World Computing CEO Larry O'Connor.
Grand prize will be a $1,000 prize package from primary sponsor Other World Computing and
macsales.com. MacMod also welcomes the sponsorship of Griffin Technology, maker of popular Macintosh, PC and iPod accessories, and RamDirect, manufacturer of quality Apple memory products. The challenge will feature over $6,000 in cash prizes and awards this year.
