OWC Tips n' Deals December 11th, 2009
In this issue:
Greeting from 'Arctic Woodstock'!
As we endure our first snow storms and truly frigid weather of the year, it definitely puts a 'one up' for the convenience of ordering online and in the comfort of home. No ice to slip on, no hunt for parking spaces, saves gas at the pump, maybe no sales tax or a lower sales tax (we don't collect outside of IL and even inside we're 7% here vs. over 10% in places like Chicago). It's still fun to go out for a run at the shops, but none the less - online opportunities sure allow for more focused selectivity in terms of fighting for those deals on the street, so to speak. A few mouse clicks, taps on the keyboard, done. I do hope the season is treating you well. While those of you in warmer parts have that sunshine and, perhaps, shorts weather to enjoy - that cold and snow does create quite the beautiful winter wonderland. Such comes to our Midwestern region every year.. Every year, also, I wonder if all those cars sliding around out here are driven by those new to these parts. Wherever you be - rain, snow, warm, cold - here's wishing you and yours Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! :). Macworld Expo 2010: February 9th through the 13th
To be or not to be... In this case... to be. Macworld Expo will return to San Francisco and OWC will be there! It's going to be a different kind of show without Apple's 'official' presence, but it's all of you who attend that really make it what it is. They do have a lot going on and we do hope it's a success. I hope the Macworld Expo tradition can continue. This year the convention will start on Tuesday the 9th with the Expo portion (where we'll be) opening up on Thursday 11th. The entire convention and expo runs through Saturday now, closing up at 6PM. In previous years the overall even went Monday through Friday, closing Friday at 4PM. Adding Saturday means you don't have to take time off during the week to rush the show. The team and I have always enjoyed seeing so many of you come back year after year... Perhaps we'll make some new friends this year too. :) So... If you're planning to go and didn't register in time after we noted Macworld Expo's Free Pass offer back in March.... you can be be our guest, register for a free pass via this linked passage, while the quantity lasts. We're working on having more, but at this time - once they run out, it may be it. I sincerely appreciate you only signing up if you are expecting to attend. Hope to see you there! Apple Quietly adds a faster Quad-Core Mac Pro option
Little has changed with the Mac Pro since we covered the new March 2009 Mac Pro Nehalem line up. What has changed is the recent addition of a new $800 option for 3.33GHz. The base Mac Pro Quad-Core remains a 2.66GHz for $2499. Option for 2.93GHz is now $400, this was $500. New Option for 3.33GHz is now $1200 ($800 more than the 2.93GHz option). Of further note, Apple now 'officially' supports up to 16GB of memory in the Quad Core. We hope you turn to OWC for your Mac Pro Memory and Hard Drive needs, but while we've long certified 16GB for the 4-Core model (and thought was to do with marketing that Apple only showed up to 8GB options) - it's nice to see Apple officiating this. At this time, there have been no changes in price or processor options for the 8-Core Mac Pro models - which still start from $3299 for the 2.26GHz model, options $1400 and $2600 to jump to 2.66GHz or 2.93GHz respectively. New Elite-AL Pro 'mini' Bus-Powered Portable - FireWire 800/USB2/eSATA
Our OWC Mercury Elite line of solutions have long been a benchmark for quality, reliability, and performance. For some time, we've had requests for a portable version of this design. It's now here! Starting from $139.99, the Mercury Elite-AL Pro mini sets new standard for portable storage. Ok... a lot of touting going on here.. but rightfully so. As far as i know, this is the first Quad-Interface supporting solution (FireWire 800/400+USB2+eSATA) that can operate with Bus Power for any of these supported interface options + without needing any special cabling. Even when connecting for data interface via eSATA, you can use a STANDARD FireWire Cable for bus powering the Elite-AL Mini. SmartFire technology senses the presense of the eSATA connectivity and will then use its standard FireWire port for power only. It may also be powered via an optional AC adapter. Currently offered up to 750GB and with SSD, 5400RPM, and 7200RPM drives. This, along our highly respected and awarded Mercury On-The-Go line provide some nice options for convenient, high-performane, data portability. Reader Special Deals and Holiday Deal Highlights
