Right at the worst moment, on a leg to San Francisco Airport - my PowerBook had a little OS Glitch and I had forgotten the system new Tiger DVD it needed. Well - kudos and a huge thanks to Jessie Cherven at the Burlingame, CA Apple Store who SAVED MY TAIL! While on the several hour layover at SFO - she went the extra mile which let me get back in business before my next flight took off. If you're in the San Jose, San Francisco area - I highly recommend the Burlingame Apple Store be on your list. For Fun Be a name in space exploration - send you and your family on an Asteroid mission. Nasa is letting you submit your name to be encoded on a microchip, at no cost - Out of this World! That said - lets hope this original mid-2006 scheduled 'trip' gets back on the launch list too! You get more and pay less with www.FasterMac.net Quick Tip: Convert your DVDs to Digital for playback, etc - from your Mac It's cool products like this MediaGate that suddenly make it interesting and even desirable to convert that DVD collection to digital for convenient access without the DVD. The product above we've even written a neat piece of software for so you can stream these videos right from your Mac, over your network, through the MediaGate for your viewing pleasure. Nice video links in the description show how easy all of it is too. Anyway... For that product or for when we see that real Mac Media Player - these three articles cover the bases for bringing those DVDs in: Where storage space is an issue, one option is converting your DVDs to the compressed .AVI format via HandBrake which lets you control the compression and quality. Where keeping it 'real' is the primary and quality the utmost concern, bring those DVDs to digital in their full quality ISO format with MactheRipper. What about DVDs you burned that you want back in your Mac? Disk Utility is all you need. I've seen digital jukeboxes that hold only the equivalent of a couple hundred DVD Movies to upwards of $10,000. You can make your own 'Digital Video Jukebox' but a fraction of that! Fun days ahead. See past Quick Tip topics online in the Quick Tip Archive Music on the Mac 12/21/2005 - Music for Macworld Season's Greetings from www.macsales.com/music As we close the books on another year here at OWC, we are as busy as ever preparing for MacWorld Expo. This is a yearly "ritual" for our team and it is something we look forward to. We enjoy being part of MacWorld Expo because we get to connect with so many customers in person, answer questions and discuss everything going on in the Mac..well..World! I will be there as always jamming away on my iGuitar and Powerbook and I hope many of you will stop by and see me. I am there to answer your questions about music technology...the point is to get all of the cool stuff working so you can get down to some serious fun and creativity! As always, there are a lot of new toys to play with each year. One of the highlights from the past year has been Pro Tools M-Powered for M-Audio hardware. This is a real breakthrough for the many thousands of people who have made the investment in the great line of audio interfaces by M-Audio. Now you can use the popular and powerful Pro Tools software recording environment too. iControl for GarageBand is also a new product that is sure to appeal to all of you using GarageBand (countless thousands) because it gives you a real "hands on" control surface rather than "mousing" around- a real pleasure and improvement for only about $150! We have also been featuring a real blow out special on basic guitar and mic USB interfaces from DVForge. The MicPlug and GuitarPlug are only $19 each and do the job. Not to be upstaged by M-Audio, Digidesign came out with the new and improved MBox 2 interface that of course includes their Pro Tools LE software. This is a VERY popular product all over the world and MBox is an easy way to buy into a recording format that is the world leader in audio recording and production. From Helsinki, Finland to Helena, Montana, it is safe to say that Pro Tools is found in every corner of the globe and if you want serious pro recording capabilities-it's the way to go! M-Audio also upgraded their hot selling BX-5 speakers by coming out with the new BX-5a - a powered speaker that sounds great, is inexpensive and has new improved kevlar woofers- the same stuff they make bullet proof vests out of-it must be tough!! Don't forget the "Key Rig" and "Drum and Bass Rig" software that gives you all the tools you need to sound like a whole rock band for about $100 each! We also have to remind ourselves during this busy season to take some time to enjoy friends, family and the gift of life and health we enjoy and I hope all of you will do the same. Have a safe and joyous holiday season. Thanks for reading my contribution to this newsletter- I sincerely hope you find it helpful! Thank you for subscribing and thank you for your support through out the years. Still some 2005 left, but we're working to make 2006 even better. Going to be a very interesting Macworld with the Intel based Macs likely to debut... But don't be too worried - as G4s and G5s still have the upper hand when it comes to audio, music, and video processing.. For now. Wow, how'd I end up on that. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from all of us at OWC! And Merry Christmas from my family to yours. And, as I like sharing pictures of our now nearly six month old son - here's a couple of him meeting Santa for the first time. :) We Support our Troops The 'fine print': Contact Information+ ++++++++++++++++++++ Sales: sales@macsales.com or 800-275-4576, International 815-338-8685 Customer Service: custserv@macsales.com or 800-275-4576 / 815-338-8685 Tech Support: Online Tech Center or 815-338-8685 Please feel free to e-mail any comments or suggestions to:suggestions@macsales.com You may ALWAYS reply to our OWC Tips and Deals e-mail at owc@macsales.com with any questions or comments as well - PLEASE change the subject to reflect your e-mail question/comment to ensure a speedy reply!
